Outreach

Calvary Skate Park T.F. (training facility)

We are blessed at Calvary Skate Park to have our own T.F. We can do outreaches in our own back yard and share the Love of Christ and lead by example to any skater who comes to skate Calvary Skate Park. We can put into practice what we learn at SkateChurch.

Drop-Ins

Drop-Ins are about reaching out to the local skate community. Drop-Ins are outreach events where we drop-in at local skate-parks and shine the light of Jesus Christ and put our faith into into action and bless those around us. The drop-ins can consist of cleaning a public skate park, handing out water for free, handing out invites to SkateChurch, praying together in the park for the salvation of the secular skate culture, encouraging the local skaters, and the list can go on. And don’t forget plenty of skateboarding!

Crew Leaders

Calvary Skate Crew (CSC) Leader

No, you don't have to be a skater. Matthew 5:16 tells us to be a bright light. Our mission is to be a Christ-like example in the lives of these skaters. The main requirement is a willingness to serve. 1 Peter 4:10 “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others...” Many come from single family homes or have never stepped into a church. We are sometimes their first example of Christ in their lives. Without a servant’s heart you are not setting a Christian example. Being a servant is a huge part of being a Christian. Christ was a servant to man, and He called people to be servants to one another. Mark 9:35 “Jesus called the Twelve and said, ‘If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.’” It does not mean you have to be a slave to ministry, but you need to come ready to help out whenever or however possible. Whatever you do, we ask that you do it prayerfully and diligently.

Are you ready?

Do you have a God-Centered Heart?

It probably doesn't need to be said, but if you are going to be volunteering at a Christian skate park you should be a Christian yourself. This doesn't mean that you have to be the most knowledgeable Christian in the world, but you do need to have some understanding of your faith and you need to have a heart centered on God.

An effective volunteer will be able to demonstrate their own relationship with God as an example for others. It is hard to teach someone something you do not do yourself. Devotions, daily prayer time, and daily Bible reading will help you grow in your relationship with God and provide support in working as a volunteer. The servant heart is also important. Volunteering sometimes takes a lot of work. You will most likely need to be available to help set-up, clean-up, and attend events beyond regular services.

A Sense of Responsibility and Authority:

Being responsible is a huge part of being an effective volunteer. You are a leader, and responsibility comes with the territory. You are responsible for certain tasks, supervision, and being an example. You need to be authoritative enough to keep students in line. Just because a teen is a Christian does not mean they make the best decisions.

As a responsible and authoritative volunteer you need to set boundaries. Certain acts require that you contact staff and pastors. Certain actions mean that you have to stand up to a teen to tell him or her she is doing wrong.

A Positive Attitude:

There is nothing more damaging than a cranky volunteer. If you complain the entire time, your students will start to associate negative traits with the skate park and church as a whole. Even in the worst of times you need to be able to put on a calm face. Keep your focus on the good in every situation. Yes, it is hard sometimes, but as a volunteer you need to keep your students focused in the right direction.

There is a lot of responsibility when you become a volunteer.

Can you do a 180˚?

I'm not just talking about an ollie or a kickturn. I am talking about a 180˚ in your life!

God is calling all people (including skaters) to repent!!

If your life is heading down a dead-end street, then do a 180˚ and turn to God who is preparing for you streets of gold. [Rev. 21:21]

God Loves You Very Much!
So much so, that he sent his son to die for you, check this out. "For God so Loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life." [John 3:16] And what is radical is that He died even though we are sinners...

We are all sinners! Yea, it's true! Whether it's skating where you're not supposed to or just getting mad at your parents: We all do lame things.

The Bible says:"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."[Romans 3:23] The biggest bummer about our sin is that it separates us from God."For the wages of sin is death."[Romans 6:23] Bummer! But the cool thing is...

(Diagram: picture of two half pipes with gap between)

God loves us so much that He provided a way for us to bridge the gap between God and sinful man. That's why He sent His son (Jesus) to die; to pay the price (death) for our sins. Jesus Christ bridges the gap that separates us from God by His death on the cross.

(Diagram: picture of two half pipes with the cross bridging the gap)

"But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."[Romans 5:8]

We are on a ramp and God has now provided the flat bottom. He has taken the first step. Now you have to decide to drop in and trust that Jesus is there to support you. That's called Faith! "He who hears My word, and believes Him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life."[John 5;24] Faith is like dropping in. It is not hard, it just takes Guts! (Diagram: picture of two half pipes with the cross bridging the gap)

Accepting God is no more difficult than dropping in on a ramp. It just takes guts (faith in Christ being the only one who can bridge the gap.) Would you like to drop in on faith and accept Christ Jesus as your Savior and have eternal life with the God who loves you? If so, do a 180˚ turn to God through prayer. Ask Him to be your Savior.

Note: Pray only if you mean it. God knows your heart.

Suggested Prayer:

"Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I take this step of faith and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Amen."

If you honestly prayed this prayer Congratulations!!!

Now you are a Christian! The moment you received Christ:

1. Christ came into your life. [Rev. 3:20]

2. Your sins were forgiven. [Col. 1:14]

3. You began a new life. [John 3:3]

4. You received eternal life. [John 5:24]

5. You received the power of God's Holy Spirit. [John 14:16,17]

For some helpful tips on how to grow in your new relationship with God:

Study Gods word, the Bible. [1 Peter 2:2]

Keep yourself involved at a local church. [Heb. 10:24,25]

Always pray. [John 15:7]

Tell others. [Mat. 28:18-20]

Earnestly seek God's will. [John 14:21]

Rely on God's Holy Spirit for power. [Gal. 5:6]
